    Addiction

Addiction is a dependence on a substance such as drugs or alcohol, or repeated behaviors. A person has no control over these urges without professional help. Therefore, it causes negative effects to their mental and physical health.

The most common symptoms are withdrawal, defensiveness, denial, lack of control, lack of interest in activities and people that were part of their lives, weight loss, and moody behavior.

The person must first stop the addicted behavior, and receive treatment tailored to their needs. Counseling and behavioral therapies, medication, mental health evaluation, and long-term follow-ups are some ways in which an addicted person can change their behavior for the better.
