Collapsed lung, also known as pneumothorax, is when air gets into the space between the lung and inner wall of the chest. This is a serious condition that needs to be treated by a medical professional. Treatment will vary depending on the severity of the situation, which can be determined by looking at a chest x-ray. Generally speaking, collapsed lungs can be caused by: asthma, cystic fibrosis, chronic bronchitis or trauma to the lungs.
