Appendicitis is the inflammation of the appendix, a tube-shaped sac that extends from the large intestine. It causes pain in your belly button and lower right abdomen. If left untreated, appendicitis can lead to an abscess or sepsis. The functions of the appendix are essentially unknown, some experts believe it stores good bacteria to help recover from a digestive tract upset whereas others consider it a remnant from our evolutionary past. Therefore, removal surgery doesn’t negatively affect the body in any known way.
Usually, treatment is surgery to remove infected appendix.
