Thanksgiving is a time to show appreciation for the things that we have in life with the people that we love. It’s also a time to overindulge in meals that aren’t easy on the waistline. And, after the big Thanksgiving meal you might feel lethargic, bloated and guilty. Get your body back on track with these simple tips on ways to detox after Thanksgiving.
Detox After Thanksgiving With Lemon Water
The morning after Thanksgiving, start your day with a warm glass of water and lemon. You might even sprinkle in a dash of cayenne pepper to really spark your metabolism.
Lemon is a great natural cleansing fruit, and kick starts your digestion and metabolism. Drink lemon water first thing in the morning, even before your morning coffee. This is a routine that you can work into your daily life, not just when you’re trying to detox from Thanksgiving.
Detox After Thanksgiving With Green Juice
Thanksgiving dinner is typically filled with food that’s not healthy for you. To get your body back on track, a green juice is a great way to replenish your body with vitamins and nutrients that it needs to properly function.
If you have a juicer, juice things like lettuce, kale/spinach, apples, ginger root and lemon together. You can also find a local juice or wheatgrass bar to grab a juice on the go. It’s easiest for your body to absorb the nutrients in juice on an empty stomach, so try to drink the juice first thing in the morning or in the afternoon between meals.
Avoid Bad Foods
You may have or plan to indulge in sugar, fats, carbs and alcohol during Thanksgiving. These foods cause inflammation in the body. To reduce the inflammation, cut out these junk foods for a few days to let your body naturally eliminate the inflammation caused by these foods.
Instead, reach for lean meats, fruits, vegetables and whole grains.
Detox After Thanksgiving With Exercise
After overindulging, nothing jump starts your metabolism like a good sweat session. Even just talking a walk around the block or walking for 20 minutes on the treadmill are better than doing nothing. Any bit of exercise that you can incorporate into your post-Thanksgiving detox will set you up for success. Avoid the urge to relax on the couch and get out and get moving! If you have access to a sauna, a post-workout 10 to 15 minute sauna session is another great way to sweat out toxins from your body.
Use a Body Brush
A body brush exfoliates your skin, and also encourages detoxification in your body. When you sweat, your body is ridding itself of toxins. When the sweat dries, some of the toxins are left on the surface of your skin. Sweating or getting into a shower while these toxins are on your skin can result in your body re-absorbing the toxins into your body. Brushing them off with a body brush removes them from your body.
Don’t have a body brush? A good body scrub can also boost circulation in your skin and help spark the detoxification process.
