Experts say that this year’s tick season is likely to be one of the most severe in recent decades. While it’s still too early to predict how severe, some researchers report a nearly 43 percent increase in the number of ticks submitted for testing compared to this month last year. What’s even more worrisome is the increase in the number of tick-associated infections that have been diagnosed.
Researchers are also noticing an alarming rise in new (to us) varieties of ticks and tick-borne diseases in the country. These include, but are not limited to, the spread of the Asian longhorn tick, Powassan virus, and Heartland virus.
Tickborne diseases can cause a host of unwanted symptoms, and in some instances can even be deadly. Some diseases, like Lyme disease, can even cause lasting chronic joint pain or inflammation.
So, with this tick season shaping up to be one of the more concerning in recent years, we thought it would be helpful to put together a small quiz to help you gauge your tick knowledge. Below are ten simple questions that can help you stay safe this tick season.[wp_quiz_pro id=”750069″]
